$10-20 per ton of CO2 is a no-nonsense range for implementing a carbon tax, given the projected effects of global warming on the USA. Quite likely an under estimate, but is conservative and would almost certainly lead to an avoidance of extreme possibilities of climate change.

Of course, this would require global cooperation, which is yet another obstacle to feasibility due to the free-rider problem. As crazy as it sounds, countries like Russia face a negative social cost of carbon, since the warmth would benefit their economy. It is therefore in their interest to pollute a bit more.
